Connectors: Search Across Gmail, Slack, and Google Drive

Beginner 🕐 12 min Lesson 10 of 13
What you'll learn
  • Connect at least one data source to Perplexity using the Connectors settings
  • Write queries that combine personal data with live web search
  • Understand what access Perplexity has and how to revoke it

The Gap Connectors Fill

Standard Perplexity searches the public web. But a lot of the information you need every day is not on the public web — it is in your inbox, your Slack channels, and your Google Drive. Connectors bridge that gap. Once connected, Perplexity can search your personal data sources alongside the web and answer questions that combine both.

Available Connectors

As of 2026, Perplexity supports connectors for:

  • Gmail — search your email threads, find specific messages, summarise email chains
  • Slack — search across your Slack workspace messages and channels
  • Google Drive — search documents, spreadsheets, and presentations in your Drive

Perplexity is expanding the connector roster; check the Connectors settings page for the current list.

How to Connect

Go to Settings → Connectors in your Perplexity account. Authorise each service using OAuth — the standard sign-in flow where you grant Perplexity read access to that account. You remain in control: you can revoke access for any connector at any time from the same settings page.

What You Can Do

Once connected, your queries can reference your personal data naturally:

  • "Find the email thread about the Q3 budget from last month and summarise the key decisions."
  • "What did the team decide about the product roadmap in #product-strategy on Slack this week?"
  • "What does our onboarding document in Google Drive say about the first 30 days?"
  • "Find any emails from [company] about pricing changes and compare them to what I can find on their public website."

That last example — combining personal data with web search in one query — is the most powerful use case. Your inbox gives you the specific; the web gives you the context.

Privacy Considerations

Perplexity accesses your connected accounts with read-only OAuth permission — it cannot send emails, post to Slack, or modify Drive files. Your data is used to answer your queries and is not used to train Perplexity's models.

Review Perplexity's current privacy policy before connecting sensitive accounts, particularly in professional or regulated environments where data handling requirements may apply. If in doubt, connect a personal account first to evaluate the behaviour before connecting work accounts.

Connectors and Spaces

Connectors work within Spaces. If you have a Space for a specific project, your queries inside that Space can draw on both your connector data and the custom instructions you've set — a useful combination for project-specific research that blends internal documents with external sources.

Key takeaways
  • Connectors let Perplexity search your Gmail, Slack, and Google Drive alongside the public web
  • The most powerful use: queries that combine your internal data with web search in the same answer
  • Perplexity gets read-only OAuth access — it cannot send messages or modify files; access can be revoked any time
