Voice Changer and Voice Remixing

Working with Audio That Already Exists
Most ElevenLabs tools start from text: you write something, the platform speaks it. Voice Changer and Voice Remixing invert that flow. You start from audio that already exists — a recorded voiceover, a podcast clip, a piece of dialogue — and transform it into something different.
These tools are useful when you cannot or do not want to re-record source audio, when you want to change the voice in existing content, or when you need to clean up a recording before using it in another pipeline.
Voice Changer
Voice Changer converts speech from one voice to another. You upload an audio file and select a target voice from your Voice Library. The output is the same speech, same pacing, same content — but spoken in the target voice.
Common use cases:
- Protecting a speaker's identity — Replace the original speaker's voice with a neutral or disguised voice while preserving the speech content exactly.
- Consistent re-voicing — A podcast recorded in a noisy environment can be re-voiced using a cloned version of the host's voice at higher quality.
- Character consistency — Audio recorded by different actors can be normalised to sound like the same character.
- Exploring voice options — Try how your script sounds with different voices without recording multiple takes.
Voice Changer works in post-processing — you upload the file, it processes, and you download the result. It is not a real-time effect.
Voice Remixing
Voice Remixing is similar to Voice Changer but focuses on transforming the character and style of the voice rather than replacing it with a different identity. Think of it as applying a voice "effect" that reshapes how the original voice sounds — its age, tone, or energy — while keeping the fundamental identity recognisable.
This is more nuanced than Voice Changer and requires some experimentation to get the result you want. It is useful for audio drama production (aging a character's voice across episodes), brand consistency work (matching the tone of recorded content to a target vocal character), and stylistic audio production.
Voice Isolator
Voice Isolator separates the voice from everything else in an audio recording. Upload a file with a voice mixed against background music, crowd noise, or ambient sound — Voice Isolator produces two outputs: the isolated voice track and the separated background audio.
This is valuable as a pre-processing step before other ElevenLabs tools:
- Clean the voice before running it through Voice Cloning — noisy samples produce lower-quality clones
- Isolate speech from a video clip before running Scribe transcription on it
- Remove background noise from a recording before dubbing it into another language
Practical Tips
These tools work best on recordings where the source voice is clearly audible and the speech content is natural and continuous. Very short clips (under 5 seconds), highly processed audio, or recordings with multiple overlapping speakers produce inconsistent results. If you are running Voice Changer on a noisy recording, run Voice Isolator first to clean the source before transforming it.
Try This
Record a 30-second voice memo on your phone — say anything, an opinion on a topic you care about. Upload it to ElevenLabs and run it through Voice Changer using one of the Voice Library's pre-made voices. Listen to the output: is the pacing preserved? How natural is the voice transition on complex words or unusual names? Then run the same original recording through Voice Isolator and listen to the isolated voice track — notice how much cleaner it is than the raw phone recording.
- Voice Changer replaces the voice in an audio file with a target voice while preserving speech content, pacing, and timing — it is a post-processing tool, not real-time
- Voice Isolator separates speech from background audio and is most useful as a pre-processing step before cloning, transcription, or dubbing
- Run Voice Isolator on noisy source audio before Voice Changer or Voice Cloning — clean source audio produces significantly better results
