## Three Levels of Conflict

**External Conflict (Character vs World)**
The visible, plot-level struggle:
- What is the protagonist fighting against or trying to achieve?
- Who or what opposes them?
- What are the real-world stakes if they fail?

**Interpersonal Conflict (Character vs Character)**
The relational friction:
- Which relationship creates the most productive friction for the story?
- What do these two characters want from each other that they cannot both have?
- How does this conflict complicate or amplify the external conflict?

**Internal Conflict (Character vs Self)**
The invisible, emotional battle:
- What belief or fear is holding the protagonist back?
- What must they accept, give up, or transform to grow?
- How does this internal conflict mirror the external conflict thematically?

## Conflict Interaction Map

Show how all three conflicts connect: how does the external conflict trigger the internal one? How does the internal conflict make the external conflict harder to solve?

## Conflict Escalation

Map how each conflict escalates across three story stages: beginning, midpoint, climax.
